From My Balcony
Simply Peter Gray
Circumstances forced me to open the dusty drawer of my work table, that drawer where I keep only my good souvenirs, my pleasant encounters, my loves, my best moments, the unforgettable things, the positive events… that drawer is filled with happiness. I only open that old drawer from time to time, when I need to fill myself with willpower, when I want to breathe deeply, when I want to fill my life with illusions and the will to live.
Yesterday, the memory of a friend of mine, a great friend, a master of life, a good man, made me want to open that drawer. There I found something I had written a while ago, two or three years, but that doesn’t matter. I will show what this old piece of paper says:
A house with soul
I was lucky enough to receive a dinner invitation at some friends’ house in Conchas Chinas. It turned out to be more than a dinner, an oasis in one of those hectic days, I landed at eight o’clock in the morning and took another flight at eight at night, and in between, many things happened.
The house is beautiful, like many of the ones in that area of Puerto Vallarta… but this house isn’t just lovely, it does not only have a marvelous view, or an incredible tropical garden of all colors and all shapes, but between the greens of the plants and the reds of the flowers, I also saw four sculptures by Ramiz Barquet and others by Tellosa and other artists of Vallarta.
The décor very eclectic, full of personal souvenirs, in good taste, plus some paintings created by the owner of the house himself. The floors and the furniture shiny and clean, the windows, you couldn’t tell if there was glass there or not… someone had cleaned them so well, and over there, down there was the bay, blue as it seldom is, peaceful and calm as if it didn’t want to move, lazy. I thought to myself: what a beautiful place to live.
But it wasn’t the beauty of it all that captivated me, from the moment I walked through the door, I felt the magic of the place. He showed me the garden and its plants, I loved the place. We sat down in the living room to chat and the conversation and the space cast a spell over me. I immediately felt that I was not in just any house, I was in a house that sings, that strokes the spirit, a house with soul – the soul of its owners. A house that smiles like its owner and also with generosity, warmth, empathy, and the charm of the lady, but it also possesses the refinement, the sharpness, the experience of the man, the man who gets excited at sharing what he has, what life has given him. As witness, I have a beautiful lady born in Zaragoza, Spain, who knows how to dote the moment with a touch of sweetness. Another lady (Elvira) and a gentleman (Cheo) added their last brushstroke with decorum and simplicity, in their desire to serve.
As you can see, they not only invited me to dine with them, they invited me to share their life with them for a while, to enjoy, to chat and to share a beautiful place of relaxation and tranquility. They invited me to share their house with soul. Thank you so very much. The house is Peter’s and Buri’s .
A house with soul
Now I am convinced that houses are neither beautiful nor ugly, they are the live reflection of those who live in it and he lived in that house, he lives in it and love will always live in it.
I remember Peter so vividly, he has not left, he has only bid us good-bye and his spirit and his presence will continue to fill us with a good example, an example that only good men can give. Peter is a good man. Email to a friend.
That’s all for today.
Muchas gracias.
Until next time.
