‘Entech Renewable Energy Solutions’
Seeks the Waste Handling Concession

Puerto Vallarta Local NewsThe company would invest 220 million Dollars in an energy-generating plant and would return 15% of the profits to the City Hall as well as another equal percentage from carbon bonds.

In the continuing process of finding the best offer for the final disposal of waste generated in the municipality, last Tuesday was again Entech Renewable Energy Solutions’ turn to present heir project to the temporary councilors commission and to the members of the Citizens Council in a meeting headed by city mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal.

The proposal’s fundamentals are based on thermal conversion technology under a process that contemplates the disintegration and consequent gasification of organic waste, thus generating electric power through the use of “syngas”, once waste has been previously separated.

It was stated that on the first year of operation 14 megas of energy would be generated, to be doubled on the second year and 42 megas would be obtained on the third year, since this alternative is aimed at turning a problem into benefits for the community.

Puerto Vallarta Local News To launch the project a 220 million Dollars investment is required to build a plant over 4 Hectares that could be bought by said enterprise, even the lot where the existing dump is located could be used.

The cost to the municipality would be 20US plus tax per ton of waste received at the plant for treatment, however, in compensation for said expenditure, the City Hall would receive 15 percent from the energy generation income and a similar percentage from the carbon bonds the company would receive.

The concession is required for a period of thirty years, on the general project and capital the company will be associated with Econergy México; its operations with Rainbow Disposal CO Inc. and all stocks are backed by The AON Corporation and QBE Insurance Group.

Government Cruisers Tax Proposal backed by Coastal City Mayors

After meeting with the federal government’s treasury and  touristic authorities, the city mayors that form the Asociación Nacional de Municipios Costeros (ANMCO, National

Puerto Vallarta Local NewsAssociation of Coastal Municipalities) stated their acceptance of the new legislative proposal of President Calderón, to advance in the collection of a fee from those who enter the Mexican territory via our ports,  this income would go directly to the treasuries of the coastal municipalities and the immigration authorities.

The proposal consists in abolishing the approved collection of $56 pesos to issue the tourists’ authorization to enter through Mexican ports, this fee is presently suspended due to the inability to operate said collection and replaced by a $25 pesos fee for immigration verification services of each person on board every touristic vessel arriving at each port.

It was clearly explained with figures how the decrease of the $52 fee by law, to $25, is compensated by the fact that the new fee will be collected at each port where the vessel calls, usually two, and it will apply to all persons on board, not only to tourists, which means the crew will also be paying for the immigration verification services.

The proposal maintains the scheme of providing resources to the municipal governments where said touristic-commercial vessels call, as well as to the Instituto Nacional de Migración (National Immigration Institute).

Cruising Tourism, a great potential for Puerto Vallarta

“One of the most important fields of activity for Puerto Vallarta is the one dealing with the cruise ship industry”. For a destination having the visit of those vessels means more tourists, more economic resources, more employment, said city mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, during his welcome address to the participants in the ‘II Seminario-Taller en Materia de Competitividad para la Industria de Cruceros en México’ (II Workshop-Seminar Mexican Competitiveness in the Cruise Ship Industry). This sector represents more tan numbers to a touristic city, it is a forthright opportunity to open further markets and to generate new business options.

Puerto Vallarta Local News The Federal Government Tourism Minister favored to continue promoting and giving the highest relevance this industry requires to grant more competitiveness to the cruise ship segment in our country, where despite the good positioning of our beach-going tourism, a complementary offer is needed. This can be achieved through the different destinations’ culture, music or gastronomy, and a joint vision by the three levels of government.

For his part, the Jalisco State Minister of Tourism highlighted that in the case of Puerto Vallarta, this sector represents a segment of growing importance, receiving over 500,000 tourists a year, and bringing about an economic income of about 40 million dollars a year.

The enormous potential of growth of this field of activity was reflected from January to July 2008, when the flow of tourists by cruise ship increased 21% compared to last year. In addition to the natural beauty of this destination, an effort is being made in competitiveness with the purpose of making Puerto Vallarta stand out as a Destination with unique characteristics, geared at strengthening its identity, rescueing and giving further value to its attributes and traditions.

Towards that goal, resources were applied to the rescue of the historic center of Puerto Vallarta, achieving a joint investment of 36 million pesos among other actions being carried out for the improvement of touristic infrastructure and services.

In a press conference the city mayor informed about some projects being undertaken in  Puerto Vallarta, as part of the development of the hotel industry in the city, the projects include three new facilities, an investment that Vallarta did not have over many years but it is being promoted as part of the equilibrium among touristic activities, as well as the advance of the Urban Development Plan for the City.
